2017 Kimball House Museum Events and Programs

The Historical Society of Battle Creek is pleased to again offer a variety of interesting monthly programs that are open to the public. The presentations will be held, unless otherwise listed, at the Kimball House (Capital Avenue, N.E., next to the Y Center) on the third Sundays of each month. Hours are 1-4 p.m. with programs beginning at 2 p.m.

June 18 Company K of the Michigan Sharp Shooters

Jim Jackson will present a talk on Company K, which was comprised of men from Michigan Ojibwa (Chippewa), Ottawa, and Potawatomi tribes.

July 16 Letters to the First Ladies

Throughout our history, citizens have been writing to the First Ladies with questions and concerns. Hear a sampling of their letters presented by Jody Owen.

August 20 Cemetery Visit

Program in conjunction with Mount Olivet and Oakhill Cemetery.

September 17 History of Kellogg Community College

Liz Neumeyer will give a brief history of our local community college at the Historical Society’s 2017 Annual Meeting.

October 15 Special Double Feature

The Kalamazoo Gals: Leanne Thorn will present ‘Standing with Gibson During War Time.’

To Rid Society of Imbeciles: Elizabeth Stout will discuss the impact of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg's ‘Stand for Eugenics.’

November 19 Sojourner Truth Celebration
